Mesa is situated at the southwestern edge of Tonto National Forest. This rugged desert forest stretches out across nearly 3 million acres of untouched land, and the parkland ranges in altitude from 1,300 to 7,900 feet. Two rivers and six lakes occupy the forest, and the area is home to over 400 species of wildlife – including 21 threatened and endangered species. Mesa Seasonal Festivals Make for Year-Round Fun

Mesa is home to a variety of great events and seasonal festivals that locals love. Just a short drive to the east in Gold Canyon, you’ll find the fair grounds of the renowned Arizona Renaissance Festival. Featuring a theater with 13 stages, a 30-acre circus, a jousting tournament and an arts and crafts fair, the Arizona Renaissance Festival is one of Mesa’s most beloved events. The main attraction, of course, is the Pleasure Feast – a 90-minute community meal consisting of five courses. Children can play a variety of interactive games and rides, like the Piccolo Pony and Da Vinci’s Flying Machine, while adults can enjoy the archery range or ask a passing poet to recite a benediction.

You’ll also want to look into the annual Schnepf Farms Pumpkin and Chili Party, a month-long event that occurs every October. This party has been voted Arizona’s Best Fall Event for three years running, and with rides, candy apples, corn mazes, and pig races to enjoy, there’s no shortage of great family activities.
